"Skugga" kan syfta på en död i dödsriket

Jag läste någonting för mig alldeles nytt idag.
Ordet skugga, i Bibeln, (eng. shade) kan syfta på ett spöke, i bemärkelsen en död persons ande i dödsriket (grk. hades). Under antiken i främre orienten, tänkte sig alla kulturer (även israeliterna) att man som död, lämnade kroppen och kom ner i en skuggtillvaro, dödsriket. Detta var en hämmad tillvaro utan särskilt mycket handlingsförmåga, kanske lik sömn. Och de människoandar som är där, kan beskrivas som skuggor.



Ur New Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible:

The biblical shades are neither named nor associated with any founder or patron. They simply exist as lifeless, nebulous, shadowy creatures in the underworld and never have any contact with the living. They are not consulted in necromancy, nor invited to feasts. They tremble before Yahweh (Job 26:5), but they are unable to praise him (Ps 88:10 [Heb. 88:11]). They are so lethargic that they must be roused when a newcomer arrives in Sheol (Isa 14:9-10)

Sometimes biblical writers associate a moral aspect with shades. A proverb warns that “whoever wanders from the way of understanding will rest in the assembly of the shades” (Prov 21:16, author’s trans.; NRSV, “the dead”). The ways of the “loose woman” or adulteress lead to the shades (Prov 2:18), while the guests of the “foolish woman” of Prov 9:18 are “shades” (alternative translation of “the dead”; see NRSV footnote). The shades include oppressive rulers or enemy kings destroyed by Yahweh (Isa 26:14). Yet, both wicked and righteous seem to be included in the promise of Isa 26:19: “Your dead shall live, their corpses shall rise. O dwellers in the dust, awake and sing for joy . . . the earth will give birth to the shades” (alternative translation of “to those long dead”; see NRSV footnote).

Bibel 2000 har faktiskt kvar ordet "skuggor" på flera av bibelställena som refereras till ovan. "Underjordens skuggor bävar, vattnet och de som bor där." Job 26:5; "Nere i dödsriket blir det rörelse när man ser dig komma. Skuggorna väcks ur sin dvala, jordens härskare. Folkens alla kungar måste resa sig från sina troner." Jes 14:9.

"Dödsskuggans dal", blir plötsligt begripligt...
